Obituary of Phyllis Ann Northup

Phyllis Ann Northup passed away at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital February 24,2021. Phyllis Ann was born May 28, 1931 on a farm North of Red Oak to Melvin and Della Grace (Newton) Halbert, later moving to a farm close to Morton’s Mill. She attended country school through the seventh grade and then finished school and graduating from Villisca High School. She would stay at a friend’s house during the week and went home on the weekends. While in school she was active in Y-Teens, loved mathematics, Roy Rogers, and country music. Phyllis married Joseph Gerald Northup May 28, 1949. They were the first couple married at the Catholic Church, located in Villisca, Iowa. They were blessed with four boys: Larry, Mike, Rick, and Tim all graduating from Villisca High School. After Phyllis and Joe married, they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. This is where she first worked at State Farm as a draft typist. They lived in Lincoln for three years then moved back to Villisca, where she worked her favorite job, a lifelong career of farming with her husband. Phyllis loved to read and spent as much time with the family as possible, she loved being the family historian, she researched, and traveled, to document everything she could and has multiple binders saved for her family. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Joe and her parents. Phyllis is survived by her children, Larry (Marvis) Northup of Clarinda, IA, Mike (Kathy) Northup of St. Joseph, MO, Richard (Joyce) Northup of Tipton, IA and Tim Northup of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren, Melanie (Jason) Kinsley, Stacy Northup, Sherrie (Brian) Scorpil, Dan Northup, Joey Northup, and Skye Northup; great-grandchildren, Gage Garner, Bree Boddicken, Cash and Cade Scorpil, Brodie Schafer, and Soley Kinsley.
